United Airlines is planning its largest international network expansion yet: 10 new destinations across Europe and Asia for the 2027 summer schedule. The carrier will also add three new routes to cities it already serves and put its new Airbus A321XLR on additional long-haul flights.
The first route, San Francisco to Okinawa, Japan, begins March 27, 2027. The European routes follow between April and June.

United’s new routes for 2027:
- San Francisco – Okinawa, Japan: March 27, three times weekly
- Newark – Luxembourg City: April 2, daily
- Washington Dulles – Toulouse, France: April 26, daily
- Newark – Ljubljana, Slovenia: May 12, four times weekly
- Newark – Olbia, Sardinia: May 27, three times weekly
- Newark – Catania, Sicily: May 28, four times weekly
- Newark – Ibiza, Spain: May 31, four times weekly
- Newark – Valencia, Spain: June 2, three times weekly
- Newark – Marseille, France: June 4, daily
- Newark – Terceira, Azores: June 9, three times weekly
Eight of the 10 destinations will have no nonstop U.S. service from any other American carrier. Most of the new routes fly out of Newark; San Francisco and Washington Dulles each get one new international destination.
United adds flights to Osaka, Milan and Paris
United is expanding service on three routes already in its network:
- Los Angeles – Osaka: daily service beginning March 27, 2027
- Washington Dulles – Milan: three times weekly beginning May 28
- Denver – Paris: daily service beginning May 27
United will also resume San Francisco – Tel Aviv service on March 28, 2027, with three flights a week.
Several routes launched for the 2026 summer season are returning in 2027, including Newark flights to Split, Bari, Glasgow and Santiago de Compostela.
Airbus A321XLR to operate new European routes
The expansion coincides with the arrival of United’s Airbus A321XLR. The airline plans to fly the aircraft from Newark to Luxembourg, Marseille, Ibiza and Valencia, plus Washington Dulles–Toulouse.
The A321XLR will carry 20 United Polaris suites with privacy doors, 12 United Premium Plus seats, and a new Economy Plus configuration. Passengers get 4K OLED seatback screens with Bluetooth, plus Starlink Wi-Fi at no extra charge for MileagePlus members.
United expects to fly the A321XLR on select domestic routes starting September 2026, with international service beginning December 1 on flights from Washington Dulles to Amsterdam and Dublin.
The narrowbody jet will let United open long-haul routes to smaller European markets that wouldn’t otherwise support a widebody aircraft.
All 2027 routes remain subject to government approval.
