From October 1, 2026, foreign visitors entering mainland Tanzania by air, land or sea must have travel insurance.
The policy costs US$44 per traveler and is valid for up to 92 days, with multiple entries allowed during that period.
It covers emergency medical treatment, evacuation, repatriation and baggage-related risks. Visitors buy it through Tanzania’s designated insurance system, either before travel or on arrival.
The rule applies to all mainland destinations, from the safari parks to Mount Kilimanjaro. Zanzibar has had its own insurance requirement since 2024, so now the mainland is covered too.
Anyone planning a safari or a Kilimanjaro climb after October 1 should add US$44 to the trip budget.
