Argentina to Launch Citizenship by Investment Program Starting at $350,000

Argentina to launch citizenship by investment program starting at $350000

Argentina plans to start accepting applications for citizenship by investment in the fourth quarter of 2026. The minimum contribution for the main applicant will be $350,000.

Program requirements

Argentina’s Minister of Economy Luis Caputo and Chief of Cabinet Diego Santilli announced the launch of the program. The main applicant can choose one of two options:

  • $350,000 — a non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury;
  • $800,000 — the purchase of a special government bond.

Family members pay extra. A spouse and unmarried children aged 18 to 25 who have no children of their own will each require a payment of $100,000. The contribution for a child under 18 will be $25,000.

Applicant screening

Investment alone does not guarantee citizenship. Applications will be reviewed by the Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs. Intelligence and financial authorities, as well as Argentina’s Ministry of Security and Ministry of the Interior, will take part in screening.

The authorities will check the applicant’s identity, source of funds, criminal record, reputation, immigration history and jurisdiction-related risks. The final decision on granting citizenship will be made by the National Migration Service.

What it means for foreigners

An Argentine passport allows visa-free travel to more than 140 countries, including the Schengen Area.

However, it is not yet clear how the «jurisdiction risk» criterion will apply to citizens of specific countries. A circulated draft of the document also stated that the program would be open to foreigners who do not need a visa to enter Argentina. This provision is not final.
