Southwest to Allow Free Checked Wine on Select Flights

U.S. airline Southwest Airlines will introduce a program allowing passengers to check wine for free on select domestic flights.

Program Details

Starting April 24, 2026, passengers will be able to check one box of wine at no charge. Up to 12 bottles are allowed, with a total weight of up to 50 lbs (23 kg).

The wine must be packed in a специальную transportation box or suitcase that meets standard baggage requirements.

Where It Applies

The Sip and Ship program applies to flights departing from select wine-producing regions on the U.S. West Coast. A full list of eligible airports and routes has not yet been released.

The launch coincides with the airline’s new service to Santa Rosa, California.

Restrictions

  • Available only to passengers age 21 and older
  • One box per passenger
  • Valid only on select routes

Similar options are already offered by other U.S. carriers and have shown strong demand among travelers.
