German airline Lufthansa is preparing for schedule disruptions after pilots announced a two-day strike set for March 12–13, 2026. The walkout, organized by the Vereinigung Cockpit union, is expected to lead to flight cancellations and timetable changes across the airline’s network.
Reason for the strike
The Vereinigung Cockpit pilots’ union called the strike after talks with Lufthansa management over working conditions and pension benefits failed to produce an agreement. Pilots from the main Lufthansa airline, as well as Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa CityLine, are expected to take part in the action.
According to the airline, more than half of the scheduled flights are expected to operate during the strike. Lufthansa says it plans to maintain about 60% of long-haul flights and up to 80% of cargo services.
Expected schedule changes
The largest disruptions are likely at Lufthansa’s main hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. Some flights will be canceled or rescheduled, while the airline plans to rely on other carriers within the Lufthansa Group and partner airlines to operate part of its flight program.
Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport and monitor notifications from the airline for possible schedule changes.
