National Airways Ethiopia

National Airways Ethiopia, formerly known as Air Ethiopia, is a private airline based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Founded in November 2007 by Abera Lemi, a former employee of the Ethiopian flag carrier Ethiopian Airlines, it initially operated as Air Ethiopia and was rebranded as Addis Airlines in 2009 before adopting its current name in 2010. The airline, which has been operating charter services since 2009, significantly expanded its fleet in 2017 with the acquisition of three Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft.

Destinations

National Airways Ethiopia has been operating charter services since 2009. In September 2019, the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority gave an approval in principle for the airline to start operating domestic scheduled services. The details were still under discussion and as of May 2021, the airline had not launched its scheduled services.

Fleet

As of September 2019, National Airways Ethiopia operated a diverse fleet of aircraft. This includes one Fokker 50, one Beechcraft 1900D, four Embraer ERJ 145s, and four De Havilland Canada Dash 8 aircraft. These acquisitions, including the Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft bought from NovoAir of Bangladesh, have been instrumental in the airline’s growth.
