Lulutai Airlines

Lulutai Airlines is a Tongan domestic airline founded in 2020. The airline emerged after the collapse of Real Tonga Airlines, Tonga’s only domestic air service at the time. The failure of Real Tonga Airlines created a void in the Tongan domestic flight sector, which Lulutai Airlines has been filling since its inception. With headquarters in Nuku’alofa, Tonga, Lulutai Airlines has a small fleet size of two planes and operates within six destinations across the country. In a bid to provide much-needed air connectivity within Tonga, the airline has risen to prominence and is even considering international flights in the future.

Destinations

Lulutai Airlines provides essential domestic air service within Tonga, connecting Tongatapu, the primary airport near the capital Nukuʻalofa, to several other islands including Vava’u, Ha’apai, Niuafo’ou, and Niuatoputapu. The airline has also announced plans to expand its services to international destinations like Fiji, Niue, and New Zealand, although specific launch dates have not been disclosed.

Fleet

The airline operates a modest fleet of two aircraft: a Saab 340 (A3-PUA) and a 12-seater Harbin Y-12. The latter was a gift from the Chinese government to the Tongan Government, which owns Lulutai Airlines. The Saab 340 was acquired on a dry lease after Real Tonga Airlines ceased its operations.
