Jubba Airways is a renowned Somali airline with a rich history dating back to May 1998. Founded by Said Nur Qailie, a Somali entrepreneur based in Calgary, the airline has bridged the gap left by the defunct Somali Airlines. With its head office in Nairobi, Kenya, Jubba Airways offers both passenger and cargo flights within Somalia and to international destinations in the Middle East. Over the years, the airline has expanded its network, having branches in countries like Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Uganda.
Destinations
Jubba Airways operates a diverse range of routes. Domestically, it covers cities in Somalia such as Mogadishu, Bosaso, Galkayo, among others. Internationally, the airline flies to Djibouti, Somaliland, the UAE (Dubai), and for Hajj pilgrims, to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. Notably, Jubba Airways marked a historic moment by initiating the first direct flight from Sharjah to Mogadishu in May 1998, a route that hadn’t been served since Somali Airlines ceased operations in 1991.
Fleet
The airline’s fleet predominantly consists of the Fokker 50 aircraft, ensuring comfortable and reliable flights for its passengers. As of July 2022, Jubba Airways maintains two Fokker 50 aircraft in its fleet.
