It is a part of the Malaysian-based AirAsia that operates scheduled domestic, international services and is an Indonesian associate carrier of the AirAsia network. The airline was established as Awair in 1999 by Abdurrahman Wahid, former chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Muslim organization.
