Established in 1986 as IFA-Flugbetriebs GmbH, it transitioned to FAI Flight-Ambulance-Service International GmbH & Co. KG in 1989 post-acquisition by Axtmann Holding, and later evolved into FAI rent-a-jet AG. Now operated under FAI Aviation Holding GmbH, its headquarters nestle at Albrecht-Dürer International Airport in Nuremberg.
