Founded in October 2021 by former Virgin Blue executive Tim Jordan, Bonza is an Australian low-cost airline with its headquarters on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Bonza commenced its operations on January 31, 2023, and focuses predominantly on under-utilized and unserved regional and domestic routes within Australia. The airline aims to disrupt the traditional hub-and-spoke model by adopting a point-to-point network approach, similar to that of Ryanair in Europe. Bonza is backed by U.S. investment firm 777 Partners and has positioned itself as a “Bogan airline,” aligning with the bogan Australian culture.
Destinations
Bonza serves 17 destinations in states like New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria, with routes such as Sunshine Coast to Whitsundays. The airline plans to expand its services to the Gold Coast starting November 15, 2023. Notably, the airline focuses on smaller regional airports rather than the major hubs like Sydney and Melbourne.
Fleet
The Bonza fleet consists of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with an all-economy configuration. As of February 2023, the airline operates four such planes and has two more on order. Bonza became the first Australian airline to operate the Boeing 737 MAX 8.
