Air Auckland

Air Auckland, originally known as Flight Hauraki, was a small New Zealand-based airline that operated from Ardmore Airport. Founded on 17 March 2008 as an associate company of MDR Aviation Ltd, Air Auckland offered a variety of flight services, including regular flights to Whitianga and Great Barrier Island. Initially focused on charter and sightseeing services, the airline later expanded its operations to include unique services like the “Island Hopper,” which offered two return daily flights from Ardmore to Waiheke Island and on to Great Barrier Island. The airline ceased its operations on May 31, 2023.

The airline provided regular flights to several destinations including Ardmore, North Shore Airport, Great Barrier Island, Claris, Okiwi (on demand), Whitianga, Coromandel, Pauanui, and Taupō. Notably, the airline had a unique “Island Hopper” service, connecting Ardmore to Waiheke Island and Great Barrier Island.

Air Auckland operated a modest fleet consisting of 2 Cessna 172s and 1 Cessna 206, ideal for short-haul flights to its various destinations. These aircraft were owned by MDR Aviation Ltd, an associate company.
